Research Microbiologist

Position description:

We are seeking a full-time Research Microbiologist with a B.S. degree and 2+ years of laboratory experience to join the research and development team. This candidate will assist with research opportunities to identify the antimicrobial potential of beneficial microorganisms to help in the preservation of food and beverages.

Responsibilities:

·       Culture, maintain, and catalog an array of microorganisms using aseptic techniques
·       Perform DNA isolation, PCR, and electrophoresis
·       Prepare media, buffers, and other reagents
·       Assist in experimental design, troubleshooting, interpretation, and data analysis
·       Keep accurate, legible, and comprehensive records in a laboratory notebook
·       Assist with developing standard operating procedures for new laboratory techniques
·       Maintain laboratory equipment and a clean workspace
·       Keep up to date on scientific literature
·       Communicate research results during R&D meetings
·       Comply with company policies

Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field of study
·       A minimum of 2 years of hands-on laboratory experience, including academic research, internships, and/or industry experience
·       Proficient in aseptic technique and experience with culturing an array of microorganisms
·       Experience working on an independent research project is preferred
·       Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
·       Willing to learn new techniques and follow protocols as written
·       Ability to multitask on various projects

Physical Requirements:

·       Ability to stand and work at a laboratory bench for extended periods
·       Ability to lift and carry materials/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds

Location: Wauwatosa, WI, USA

Employment: Full-Time – 40 hours/week with occasional flexibility to accommodate time-sensitive experiments

Salary Range: $50K-$60K
